Andre McDonald, a 6-foot-8, 280-pound tight end from Choctaw High School in Okla., has made a commitment to Kansas State.
In addition to the offer from Kansas State, McDonald was receiving heavy interest from schools like Tulsa, Oklahoma State, New Mexico, TCU, Iowa State, and Duke, but in the end he just felt the most comfortable with the Wildcats.
"From the first time they contacted me they showed me a lot of interest," McDonald explained. "It was a joy and pleasure to be recruited by them."
With his size it could be a realistic possibility for McDonald to play on the line, but KSU is going to give him a shot to play tight end, and that was another big factor n his decision making process.
"They told me that they are going to go ahead and let me play tight end," McDonald said. "I went to their camp and worked out and they said that playing tight end is very possible."
"I like tight end because I can stay on the line and block like I am another tackle, or I can go out and show what else I can do with my speed and my hands."
McDonald says that he also liked the feel of the campus in Manhattan, and the location was also an added bonus.
"I loved it," McDonald said of the campus. "Everything was close and all of the people were all smiles."
"I definitely liked that it was only four hours away. One coach told me that I could wake up and have breakfast in Manhattan and still be home by lunch time."
McDonald may be a hidden gem to recruiting services, but McDonald says that he has put in the hard work to get where he is today.
"I think a lot of it was because we are not a big time winning school," he said of the reasons he believed he was under the radar. "We were 1-9 last year and 3-7 the year before."
"I have a great work ethic and I have been working hard all summer long. I have had a strong off-season. I have been working with a personal trainer and I am in top condition. Football is an all year thing now and I have been putting in the work."
The Kansas State Wildcats have been having a lot of success recruiting the "Sooner State" so far, and they have added another player from their neighbors down south when Choctaw sleeper Andre McDonald selected the Wildcats today.
