2014 QB with WSU offer eyes Palouse visit
"I was very excited to get that Wazzu offer," Cornwell said. "I've just recently been speaking with the Cougar coaches and they've been excited about recruiting me. I'm working on getting out there for an unofficial visit here shortly."
Cornwell, who will take an unofficial visit to UCLA on Feb. 9, said he is hoping to get to Pullman on either Feb. 10 or head to WSU the following weekend for Washington State's Junior Day event scheduled for Feb. 16.
"Coach Leach did some really good things at Texas Tech and you can tell he's doing a good job at Washington State," Cornwell said. "He is doing his best to build the program and in his first year, you could tell progress was made. To help build that program would be great and having that Pac-12 offer is a big honor for me. Especially since it came from a coach like Mike Leach."
In addition to his scholarship offers, Cornwell is receiving plenty of interest from countless schools.
He'll take an unofficial visit to Alabama this weekend, whom he said is also close to offering. Cornwell added that Michigan is another school that could offer soon and the Wolverines are a program he's had his eye on for quite some time.
"There's a slew of schools looking at me right now," Cornwell said. "The Pac-12 or SEC would probably be the optimal conference for me, but I'm very interested in Michigan as well. They'd probably be in my top three right now with UCLA and Alabama. With my WSU offer, I might have to redo my top five, but I feel like I have some really good options to play with some great coaches."
Cornwell's current top five is Alabama, UCLA, Michigan, Arkansas and Indiana, while other schools he's interested in includes Georgia, LSU, Texas, Stanford and Oregon State.
But Cornwell said there's a reason he's planning on taking an unofficial visit to the Palouse in the coming weeks.
"I really don't know anything about them right now, so obviously I want to do my research," Cornwell said. "I need to learn about the players, Coach Leach and the rest of the coaching staff to see if that'd be a good fit for me."
So what makes Cornwell's game so special that has so many college coaches around the country blowing up his phone?
"Well first off, I think I have great leadership," Cornwell said. "I like being the go to guy and I can make plays. I keep plays going and I think that can help me at the next level. I know the game of football as well and I'm looking for a coach who is willing to watch a lot of film with me and talk football.
"I look at playing quarterback as a job. If I want to keep my job, I'm going to have to compete at a high level at all times and I know that winning games for your coach is huge."
Cornwell added that he's in absolutely no rush to make a college decision and will take plenty of trips this spring.
"I'm going to take my time with everything," Cornwell said. "I've got Alabama this weekend and Indiana the week after that. I'm setting up a visit to Virginia Tech for spring ball and obviously the trip to Washington State. Oklahoma is coming out to see me and Oklahoma State is as well. I'll probably go out to Tulsa as well. There's a laundry list of schools after me really."

Leach has also already offered a 2015 class QB -- Spokane's Brett Rypien.
